Shah Rukh and Aamir coming together for director Danny Boyle

Our headlines may mislead our patrons into thinking that two of Bollywood ’s biggest superstars, Shah Rukh Khan and Aamir Khan, are coming together for a film to be directed by the SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE director, Danny Boyle. But sadly, that is just wishful thinking. However, there is one very important factor that binds the three and that is none other than the famous stunt coordinator and action director, Sham Kaushal.

For those who are unaware, Sham Kaushal has been in the news for composing the stunts and action sequences of last week’s release, SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE. Moreover, he is also the action/stunt coordinator of Karan Johar’s Shah Rukh Khan starrer, MY NAME IS KHAN and Rajkumar Hirani’s Aamir Khan starrer, 3 IDIOTS. He has an impressive list of releases coming up this year in the form of Vishal Bhardwaj’s KAMINAY, Nagesh Kukunoor’s TASVEER and Prakash Jha’s RAJNEETI, apart from the three prestigious films mentioned above.

Well, Bollywood may have woken up late to the talent of Sham Kaushal, but King Khan spotted it very early on and gave Sham a break in his home productions, ASOKA (2001). Later he stunned the film industry by composing some amazing stunts and action sequences for Hrithik Roshan’s KRISSH. Sham then went on to do OM SHANTI OM for SRK’s home banner, Red Chillies and he is now coordinating the action sequences of two of the most anticipated releases of 2009, MY NAME IS KHAN and 3 IDIOTS.

Way to go, Sham and here’s looking forward to all your stunts (literally!) in your forthcoming films...

Freida Pinto had a huge crush on Hollywood star Leonardo DiCaprio

Before she became famous with the international success of Slumdog Millionaire , Freida Pinto had a huge crush on Hollywood star Leonardo DiCaprio.

Freida became a fan of Di Caprio after she saw him in ‘ Titanic ’. But she was more than a fan.

"I’ve fantasized about him. I had a crush on him. Ever since ’Titanic’... This is really embarrassing, but I had a scrapbook with everything Leonardo in it... He’s a really nice person,” Freida says. Now, however, Freida has grown more practical.

“The crush is gone but the admiration is still there,” says the Latika of Danny Boyle’s film.

On the other hand, her male co-star Dev Patel harbours a dream of working with Will Smith someday.

In a recent chat with US news show "Extra", Patel said: "Hello, Mr. Smith… Please let me do a film with you. I stumbled upon your premiere of ’Hancock’ in London and I waited three hours. I was dying to go to the toilet and I’ve got a picture of you on my phone. It’d be great. Just a small role. Shake your hand or something... Thank you.”

With every passing day, the cast and crew of ‘ Slumdog Millionaire ’ are filled with excitement because of the coming Oscar awards on February 22. The movie has got 10 nominations.

Akshay Kumar sent a cheque of 5 lakh for late constable Tukaram Ombale

Akshay Kumar is in a charitable mood. When Akshay learnt that two of his closest friends, actor Manoj Joshi and producer Rakesh Upadhyay were organising a show of Manoj’s play Chanakya for the family of late constable Tukaram Ombale, the actor promptly sent a cheque of Rs 5 lakh for Ombale’s family.

That’s not all. Akshay has also taken the responsibility of educating Ombale’s younger daughters Vaishali and Bharti. Ombale lost his life while trying to nab terrorist Ajmal Qasab on the night of 26/11.

Although Akshay did not attend the play as he was busy, he made it a point to send his sister Alka to attend the show. Alka met Tukaram’s daughter Vaishali and gave her the cheque.

We tried to get in touch with one of Ombale’s elder daughters, Vandana whose husband Rajendra said, ’’Yes, Akshayji has given us a cheque of Rs 5 lakh. He has also offered financial assistance for Vaishali’s as well as Bharti’s education. Vaishali is doing her B.Ed while Bharti is a final year B.Com student.’’

And have they spoken to Akshay after receiving the cheque? ’’Unfortunately, we have not been able to speak to Akshayji as he has been very busy,’’ said Rajendra.

Manoj Joshi said, ’’Although Tukaram only had a lathi to fight the terrorist, he did not care for his life even though he knew that Qasab had deadly weapons. Tukaram’s bravery should not go unnoticed. Akshay has done what few people would do. I have newfound respect for him.’’

Baadshah of Bollywood SRK has no problems with Slumdog critics

Many critics and prominent industry people have been fuming about the fact that the Oscar nominated film ’Slumdog Millionaire’ highlights the poverty in Mumbai.But the Baadshah of Bollywood SRK has no problems with it.

He thinks that the poverty seen in the film is a reality and thinks it’s wrong for people to become cynical when the film is getting international acclaim.

Khan, who has read the original book as well as the script says, "Isn’t that (poverty and slums) a reality? If you (critics) have a problem with the word slumdog, why don’t you look positively and see that there is a word millionaire or ’crorepati’ also."

Khan, has returned from Los Angeles after a month-long schedule of Karan Johar’s ’My name is Khan’ and testified, "I have just returned from the US and people there have become crazy about the film and its music. The film’s sound is also good apart from a good story and screenplay. The film deserves all awards."

However he doesn’t regret turning down Anil Kapoor ’s role in the film.

He says maybe he wouldn’t have done justice to the role of a game show host like Anil Kapoor. He was already hosting ’Kaun Banega Crorepati’ (KBC) and later ’Kya Aap Panchvi Pass Se Tez Hai’ during the time Danny shot the film and will do the new season too.

He adds, "I love awards and I hope to feature in a film comprising Indian cast and crew some day which will go to win these awards. The success of ’Slumdog Millionaire’ worldwide is an incentive to all Indian filmmakers."

And we always thought that the baadshah was totally in love with Bollywood only and didn’t really care about anything else. It’s nice to see him talk with an international perspective for a change!

Deepika Padukone is the latest trend that has caught the fancy of young girls

She played a Chinese girl with fringes in Chandni Chowk To China , and though the movie failed to click with masses the fringes sported by Deepika Padukone is the latest trend that has caught the fancy of young girls.

Well, this fringe hair-do became a rage when actress Sadhna sported the hair-cut for the first time in 1960s. She was quite a fashionable lady and the hair cut was rightly named ‘sadhna-cut’. In 1980s fringes was style statement for charming actress Neelam, who sported this look in many of her films.

Stylist Malllika Bhat, who dolled up Deepika for her tweaked Chinese look, says, “Sporting a fringe will be the coolest thing of this year as the style is back in vogue. Fringe hides your age and makes you look younger.”

This particular styling requires plain-straight hair. The style is a strict no-no for frizzy or curly hairs, agrees famous hair stylist Javed Habib. Fringes are made by shapely cutting the front portion of the hair so that it falls on your forehead and lies just above the eyebrows.

The hair-cut has several patterns and youngsters can choose what to select, depending on their face-cut, says celebrity stylist Ryan D. Rozario.Stylist Samantha Kochar says you can colour some tresses of your fringe to look hot and chic.This modern-chic style is getting popular amongst trendy urban class girls. But any girl should be careful while trying fringes because it can turn out to be a fashion-disaster, as it doesn’t suit every beautiful face.

Vidhu Vinod Chopra is ready to mark his directorial debut in Hollywood

With a series of acclaimed films to his name, Vidhu Vinod Chopra is ready to mark his directorial debut in Hollywood with his ambitious project Broken Horses and his hunt for the lead actor is finally over.

The filmmaker has signed on this year’s Golden Globe Best Actor winner and Academy Award nominee Mickey Rourke (The Wrestler) for this film.

Chopra also revealed that he had seen a special screening of Rourke’s The Wrestler before the awards fever began. "I was bowled over by his performance. Both of us had an instant connect when we met in Los Angeles.

He was my first choice and was finalized even before he won the Golden Globe; it’s great to have him on board for one of the key roles in the film. Mickey deserves all the acclaim he is getting and I hope he wins the Oscar as well," said the maverick director.

Broken Horses, belonging to the gangster genre with a screenplay based on an original story by Chopra himself, is the work of award-winning writer Abhijat Joshi (Lage Raho Munnabhai, Eklavya ) and script consultant Jason Richman (Bangkok Dangerous, Swing Vote). Mark Johnson (Chronicles of Narnia, The Notebook and Rain Man) is the executive producer of the film, while Chris Buchinsky (Hancock, Spiderman 2) is the story- board artist. The film is expected to be shot across New Mexico, New York and Albuquerque. ’

Mandira Bedi to start her second innings in one of the serials

Mandira Bedi who has done a bit of anchoring, is now participating in her first ever reality show. However, it’s not another dancing or singing competition. “It is really great to be back on television. I have been offered all kinds of reality shows, but I can’t sing or dance. It is very challenging to be a contestant of this show,” says Mandira.

Does Mandira want to start her second innings in one of the serials on air? “The soaps are very regressive and backward in their themes and storylines. I wouldn’t want to be a part of them,” says Mandira who is currently focusing on her forthcoming flick Mumbai Chaka Chak and the TV show Laughter Knights.

Shah Rukh has been taking more than a passing interest in the music

Shah Rukh has been taking more than a passing interest in the music for the films he produces. And Priyanka Chopra would vouch for that.

If she declares from rooftops that she is Shah Rukh Khan’s biggest fan then it with reason. The man just floors his ladies, without trying to be be charming.

What he did for Priyanka Chopra in Billu Barbar would certify as pure magnanimity and generosity, both as a considerate co-star and producer.

Shah Rukh decided to give away a large portion of his duet in Billu Barbar to Priyanka.

Says the film’s excited music composer Pritam Chakraborty, "Shah Rukh took very close interest in each one of the songs. He isn’t a musician. But he has an instinctive ear for music. It takes him just a few seconds to approve or cut down a track."

With the songs meant for Kareena Kapoor and Deepika Padukone , Pritam faced no problems. "Shah Rukh loved his songs with Kareena Marjana and Deepika Love mera hit hit. They were straightforward dance songs with shared grooves between Shah Rukh and Kareena/Deepika."

The Priyanka song needed special treatment. And Shah Rukh made Pritam re-work and re-record the song.

Divulges Pritam, "Shah Rukh’s song with Priyanka Khuda-ae-kher is not an item song. It’s a love ballad that the pair playing Bollywood superstars, emote to in front of the camera.

Being a love song Shah Rukh felt there wasn’t enough of the female presemce in the vocals. He made me re-record the song with more for the female vocalist (Dominique) to do since he wanted Priyanka to have an equal number of lines."

Irrfan Khan and Lara Dutta who play a rustic couple will later be seen enacting the same Shah Rukh-Priyanka ballad exactly the way the village couple had seen the stars do the song.

From sharing Akshay Kumar on screen in Andaaz to sharing the same love song, the Priyanka-Lara Dutta rivalry sure has come a long way.

Laughs Pritam, "It was entirely Shah Rukh’s idea to give Priyanka more lines in the song. He’s a very generous entertainer. If you see him on screen he never tries to steal the limelight from his heroines. Even Khai ke paan banaras wala had a lot of Priyanka in Don although it was entirely Shah Rukh’s song."

When told about Shah Rukh’s gesture, Priyanka stays silent for a while. She then sighs and says, "What do I say? Now do you know why he’s my favourite?"

Aamir Khan and Danny Boyle bonded like buddies

At the premiere of Slumdog Millionaire in Mumbai, superstar Aamir Khan bonded with the film’s director Danny Boyle.In a recent interview, Danny had stated that there are three Bollywood actors he wants to work with - Aamir Khan (who, Danny said, was an amazing filmmaker), Hrithik Roshan (who, Danny thinks, is the best dancer after Michael Jackson) and, of course, Anil Kapoor .

At a special party for the cast and crew of ‘Slumdog Millionaire ’ held on Thursday night after the film’s star-studded premiere, Aamir and Danny bonded like buddies. Aamir, who was also at the premiere, was visibly impressed after watching the movie and discussed a lot of things with Danny at the party.

The duo was so engrossed in their discussions that they chatted away for as long as three hours.It is being speculated that Danny, who has already expressed his wish to make another film in Mumbai, also tossed the idea to Aamir who might end up doing the film with the British director.Danny recently said he wants to make a thriller set at night in Mumbai.

Kareena Kapoor get an opportunity to meet with Erin Brockovich

Kareena Kapoor may have received many awards, but this one’s going to be extra special. We hear that the actress will be given an award for her contribution to the world of art and cinema by the environmental activist Erin Brockovich. The lady will fly down soon to present the award to the Bollywood hottie. For those who came in late, Erin is an American legal clerk and environmental activist who, despite the lack of a formal law school education, fought and won the case against a major company.

Hollywood actress Julia Roberts portrayed Erin’s character on the silver screen and even won an Oscar for it. The real Erin will fly down to Mumbai in the first week of February to present the award to Kareena. Kareena is of course thrilled that she’ll get an opportunity to meet Erin. “I am very happy,” she smiles. “It’s a privilege to be awarded by such a great personality,” she adds. Shilpa Shetty was all set to sacrifice her long tresses for the camera

Shilpa Shetty was all set to sacrifice her long tresses for the camera, but though the lady was willing to do so, she had to do away with her plans because of her prior commitments with a major cosmetic company which put its foot down after reading a news report that she’d be shaving off her hair.

So, for the shoot which took place on Tuesday in Kollam, Shilpa did go bald but the baldness was induced by prosthetics. Says Shilpa, “I’d have loved to shave off my hair. But my other commitments put an end to my plans. The bald prosthetics were done by an amazing makeup artiste named Vidyadhar. It took him three hours to make me look bald. And after I finished shooting it took an hour to take off the bald makeup.”

Shilpa insisted on doing all the bald scenes in one day. “Getting into the bald make up again would’ve been impossible. But what we’ve shot is amazing. Being hairless makes you look so vulnerable and childlike. I felt I had gone back to my childhood,” Shilpa said from Kollam where the film Desire is being shot.

Shilpa regrets not going the whole hog. “Seeing myself in bald prosthetics liberated me. I wish I could’ve actually shaved of my hair. When Aamir Khan tonsures his head and it becomes a fashion statement. But we girls have to go by the market definitions of glamour.”

Pretty Woman Julia Roberts visited the famed Taj Mahal in Agra on Thursday.

The actress was spotted with her husband Daniel Moder and their children on a sightseeing visit at Taj Mahal that was voted to be among the New Seven Wonders of the World in 2008.

Earlier Julia and her family also spent their holidays for two days at the Pink City of Jaipur. They were seen enjoying elephant and camel cart rides.

Sanjay Dutt inspiration to join politics is the new US president Barack Obama

One of Sanjay Dutt ’s biggest sources of inspiration to join politics is the new US president Barack Obama.

Believe it or not Sanjay knows Obama well enough to consider him a political role model. "Like him I am quite an outsider and an individual who has gotten over many levels of prejudice.

I’d like to think of myself as the regular friendly guy nextdoor who came into politics from the cold. Plus, Obama is a complete family man like me. I’d certainly like to pattern my political career on him."

Sanjay Dutt is the only Bollywoodian to have spent time with Obama. "I’ve met him when he was a Senator. But not since he became the President. I plan to do so now.

I’ve marched in an Independence Day rally with him when he was a senator. And we hit it off well. In fact recently I was called by the UN to be felicitated by Obama and Clinton’s families. Unfortunately Barack Obama couldn’t be there."

Now Sanjay is planning to meet up with the US President during his next visit. "As the UN’s ambassador for malnutrition I’ve to again go to the US shortly. I plan to meet up with Obama."

And needless to say, take tips from Obama on how how be a politician without losing family values. Sanjay is taking his Gandhian role in real life very seriously. "I haven’t touched alcohol in months. I’ve become a nimbu-pani man now. I don’t even sneak a drink. If I do I’ll be back guzzling the beverage. For me it’s always all or none. The only time I drank was 31 December and that too just a bit."

His next political move depends on the country’s legal system. "I’m very hopeful I’d be allowed to contest the Lok Sabha elections. They’ve allowed Navjot Sidhu who’s like my brother, why shouldn’t they give me a chance?

He was booked was under Section 302 years which amounts to murder. Navjot is a wonderful man. Things happen in life. The honourable court understood that and gave Navjot a chance to serve our people.

Why can’t they give me the same chance? My recent track record is very positive. I’m the UN’s ambassador for malnutrition. It’s a great honour for me and the country.

SRK would have been better than Anil Kapoor in Slumdog Millionaire

Slumdog Millionaire has finally put India on the global map, as it swept away four Golden Globes, however our superstar SRK was supposed to be an important part of the flick, he was the original choice of director Danny Boyle to play the host of Who Wants to be the Millionaire show, which was later played by Anil Kapoor.

However SRK does not regret missing out on the movie, he says, ” No. I know Danny felt bad about it. But he is such a good human being. And his love for India is something very special. After I saw the film, I thought Anil had done a fabulous job and deserves every bit of the success.”

SRK even refused some biggies like Lagaan, Munnabhai and more recen 3 Idiots, ask him about it and he says, “There shouldn’t be any afterthought once a decision is made. Nobody could have done a better job than Sanjay Dutt in Munnabhai… Yes, I was keen to do Lagaan, but Ashutosh and I didn’t get a producer at that time. I wasn’t into production then. And I didn’t do 3 Idiots which Aamir is doing now. Looks like Aamir was destined to do both the roles. He is brilliant, no doubt. Everything isn’t made for me alone. God has given me enough, I’d better be happy and contented. “

Happy to report that Sarika and Shruthi are mending their relationship

Early last year, Sarika had shocked audiences when she had openly declared that she wasn’t on talking terms with her daughter Shruthi Haasan. This fall out was a result of Shruthi’s open support for her father and his affair which made Sarika feel betrayed. Subsequently she cut off ties with her. But we are Happy to report that Sarika and Shruthi are mending their relationship.

"She is my daughter and although I’m not on talking terms with her father,Kamal Haasan , I share a good equation with my daughter. She watched Tahaan and she liked my performance but because she was busy in her shoot she had no time to tell me this. She called me a week ago to tell me how my performance bought her to tears and this made me feel very happy," says Sarika.

The proud mother says she is also pleased with her daughter’s career graph. Shruthi has been singing and she will soon be making her debut in Bollywood opposite Imran Khan in Luck."We are happy that things are fine between the two of us again. I want her to give her best in her debut film and I wish her all the luck," she added.

After Sarika and Kamal Haasan parted ways, Sarika brought up Shruthi single handedly. Six months ago, Shruthi decided to stay in with her father, Kamal, leaving Sarika all by herself. This came after Shruthi supported her father’s alleged affair with South Indian actress, Gautami. And this caused a crack in the mother-daughter duo .

Bollywood pandits predict a rocking 2009 for Kareena

The year 2008 heralded Kareena as a fashion diva as well as an established actress with her breathtaking performance in Jab We Met. And now for the year 2009, she has been voted as the only actress who has been able to make it up in the list of Top 10 Youth Icon.

Reportedly, a survey conducted by a reputed newspaper, amongst youth between the ages 18 and 25, across 10 major cities, Kareena Kapoor was the only actress whose name has been listed in the top 10 youth icons. The list includes Shahrukh Khan , Dhoni, Aamir Khan, Rahul Gandhi, and others. On the number 1 position were the NSG commandos.

Bollywood actress Kareena Kapoor recently organised a surprise birthday bash for her family doctor. "Bebo (as she is fondly called) is very fond of Dr Agarwal. She took time out from her busy schedule and threw him a nice party. She herself made every phone call and invited people," said a source close the actress.

The source added: "Dr. Agarwal was unaware of the surprise party and was flattered. He was very happy." Guests who made it to the event included Tusshar Kapoor, Shabina Khan, Kareena’s mother Babita and sister Karisma Kapoor among others. Agarwal is a family doctor for other celebrities like Tabu and Urmila Matondkar.

Minogue has been offered the opportunity to act in the film by the brilliant team behind the critically acclaimed movie Slumdog Millionaire. The singer became involved in the project when she was asked by composer A.R. Rahman , who composed the music for the award-winning film, to write the soundtrack for his next film Blue.

Rahman said that the producers wanted a celebrity and they had a choice of four including Beyonce and a couple of others. This new role will not be the "Wow" singers first venture onto the big screen; she has previously starred in the successful Baz Lurhmann musical Moulin Rouge in 2001.

Sanjay Dutt promising people to 'Gandhigiri' in elections

Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt charmed Lucknow - from where he intends to contest Lok Sabha elections - as he went on a political road show for the first time, promising people to live up to him screen image of Munnabhai with ’Gandhigiri’ and ’jadu ki jhappi’. Dutt took Lucknow by storm as he drove through the streets of the Uttar Pradesh capital, acknowledging the greetings of thousands who waited to cheer him.

Attired in a white khadi kurta-pyjama with a green muffler, a bearded Dutt was flanked by his wife Manyata well known filmstars-turned Samajwai Party MPs Jaya Prada and Jaya Bachchan, popular Bhojpuri star singer Manoj Tiwari and the party top brass including chief Mulayam Singh Yadav and general secretary Amar Singh.He won over the crowds by repeatedly referring to "Gandhigiri" - an unusual take on practising Mahatma Gandhi’s ideals of truth and non-violence as depicted in the box office blockbuster ’Lage Raho Munnabhai’ - and said he would give "jadu ki jhappi" to the people of the constituency - referring to the term made popular by his mega hit ’Munnabhai M.B.B.S.’.

"I will offer flowers to Mayawati," he quipped when asked how he proposed to handle his key opponent. "You will see my Gandhigiri in real life now," he told a crowded press conference here at the end of his four-hour road-show.
Asked to comment about who would play his "circuit", the right-hand man to the character of Munnabhai, pat came the reply from Jaya Bachchan: "All of us".

Dutt was not unnerved by the high-profile poll campaign being undertaken by BSP nominee Akhilesh Das, who is now likely to get a run for all his money that was pumped in to make the Lucknow contest among the most expensive in the country.
Sure enough, Dutt’s entry on the Lucknow scene has already sent jitters down the BSP rank and file.

The party’s discomfiture became visible in a shabby protest staged by a handful of Das supporters, who put up placards declaring, "Sanjay Dutt wapas jaao" (Go back Sanjay Dutt).Earlier, an anonymous hoarding replaced one of Das’s campaign hoardings, showing an AK- 47 rifle and captioned, "Lucknow does not want AK-47", in an indirect attack on Dutt, who continues to remain convicted under the Arms Act for possession of an AK-47 ahead of the 1993 Mumbai terror attacks.

A solid-gold statue to Aamir designed specially to resemble Aamir’s Ghajini look

‘Ghajini’ had everything new about it- be it a very unique storyline, be it Aamir’s new hairstyle, be it the innovative way of promoting it, be it the launch of Van Huesen ‘Ghajini’ line and the latest being the never before heard gesture of appreciation from producer Madhu Mantena to Aamir Khan .

Madhu Mantena presented A solid-gold statue to Aamir designed specially to resemble Aamir’s Ghajini look at the party held to celebrate the film’s success earlier this week.

“8 abs included. We can see all 8 of them on the statue,” Mantena states proudly.

The statuette is pure gold and probably cost the producer close to Rs. 70-80 lakhs though he isn’t telling.

“It has certain amount of other metal to make it malleable. Solid gold wouldn’t allow the identical Ghajini shape to be done in gold. But the idea was to create an Oscar-sized statue exclusively for Ghajini. Aamir knew he was getting a trophy. But he didn’t know it would be golden and with his Ghajini’s look. He was overwhelmed,” says Mantena.

Director Murugadoss was also given a statue, though far less hefty and golden than Aamir’s, but of course including the 8-abs .

Remember the 66th annual Golden Globes as the ceremony

We will forever Remember the 66th annual Golden Globes as the ceremony that pushed Indian cinema over the top, albeit indirectly. British director Danny Boyle’s Slumdog Millionaire, often called his ’Ode to Mumbai’, swept the awards show, winning all four categories in which it was nominated (Best Screenplay, Best Original Score, Best Director, Best Motion Picture -- Drama).

With Anil Kapoor, Freida Pinto and A R Rahman (whose work in Slumdog won Best Original Score), and Shah Rukh Khan introducing the film, it was really and truly an Indian affair.

Let’s take a look at some of the big Globes winners.

Slumdog Millionaire was pit against a star-studded line-up -- Brad Pitt’s The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Kate Winslet-Leonardo DiCaprio’s Revolutionary Road and Philip Seymour Hoffman’s The Reader.

Yet, the underdog film about an underdog gameshow contestant managed to upstage them all.

British Director Danny Boyle -- who showed his penchant for grittiness in Trainspotting -- took the world into Mumbai’s bustling slums, to tell us the story of one Jamal Malik and the love of his life, Latika.

Though pre-show buzz indicated that Slumdog Millionaire had a great chance at bringing home the trophy, it was almost impossible to believe that this independent film, without a major release, was going to top Titantic juggernauts Winslet and DiCaprio? It did. And all of India celebrated!

The old master still has it. Woody Allen, who gave us such hits as Annie Hall, Manhattan, Life and Death and The Purple Rose of Cairo, showed that talent is ageless in this Barcelona-based tale called Vicky Cristina Barcelona.
Allen -- with Penelope Cruz, Rebecca Hall and Scarlett Johansson as his muses -- recaptured his magic with this touching tale.

Many thought the Colin Farrell-starrer In Bruges would win the award, but it wasn’t to be.

The competition was stiff, as Angelina Jolie (Changeling) and Meryl Streep (Doubt) were strong contenders. Had Streep emerged victorious, it would have been her seventh Golden Globe. But that wasn’t to be, and Winslet happily scooped up her second award of the night!

What a remarkable journey it has been for Mickey Rourke. The down-n-out ’failed’ actor had given up on a career in Hollywood years ago. Yet, with his passionate and powerful performance in The Wrestler, he resurrected his career and won his first Golden Globe.
Rumour has it that Rourke trained for months as a professional wrestler, just to gain insight into the real world of wrestling. Turns out, all those bumps and bruises he sustained weren’t for nought.

It’s a bit surprising that Leonardo DiCaprio didn’t bring home the award for his work in Revolutionary Road.

Dia Mirza loves to be in her own world. If you may be wondering why is she seen in a very few movies nowadays then according to the pretty actress, her hobbies and interests take most of her time which is why she is not signing more movies.She tells us, "I do an average of 4 to 5 films a year. I think it is important to do different films instead of signing a lot of them just for the sake of it."

"Otherwise I am happy doing pottery painting. Apart from painting Dia enjoys horse riding. She has recently joined the Amateur Riding Club (AMC) at Mahalaxmi race course.

"Horse ridding has been a childhood hobby. I didn’t know there are riding classes in Mumbai until Lara joined it. Amateur Riding Club is a huge place. I never knew that such a large space existed in the heart of the city. People come to jog and ride."

Not just horse riding; this beautiful actress enjoys painting and writing poetry as well. "I’ve written around 50 poems and my friends compliment me on it. In fact my mother is after me to have them published.

Maybe someday I will like Anne Franks Diary. I paint; I write poetry and love photography. I am a constant seeker and I keep learning different things to fill the void in my life."

Dia loves to paint graphics and nature. She explains that her moods and thoughts reflect in her painting.

"I love painting and that’s why when I am angry I paint, when I am sad I paint, when I am happy I paint. I paint in various moods and then gift them to people." She concludes

Shah Rukh Khan ’s Red Chilies Entertainment is presently producing a dance reality show titled, Knights & Angels to hunt for cheerleaders for his IPL team Kolkata Knight Riders. The show is slated to go on air on NDTV Imagine later in a few months time.

Our source reveals, “Ex-Indian cricket team captain and captain of SRK’s KKR, Saurabh Ganguly is going to be the main judge on the show. The winner of Knights & Angels will get a chance to be a part of the cheer leading team for Knight Riders. It is learnt that ace choreographer Shaimak Davar is slated to train the girls. Talks are also on with a top Bollywood starlet to host the show and the papers are expected to be signed soon.

If one has been the latest promo unveiled by NDTV Imagine, promoting its new lineup, the King Khan can be seen talking about the new reality show. It is learnt that the show will be spread over six episodes and is expected to being on 7 March and culminate on 4 April.Red Chilies Entertainment is also launching a soap called Ghar Ki Baat Hai on NDTV Imagine. Salman Khan have been featuring in the news for all the wrong reasons

Bollywood stars Salman Khan and Ajay Devgan have been featuring in the news for all the wrong reasons by consistently breaking the no-smoking law in the first smoke-free city of the country. Both actors have been served five penalty notices for smoking at public places in the last three days in Chandigarh and in neighbouring Punjab.

The first one to hit the list was Devgan who immediately lit a cigarette at the airport on reaching Chandigarh last Monday and was immediately caught on camera by a photo journalist. The police issued a notice to him on Wednesday after receiving a complaint from a non-government organisation on Tuesday.

After keeping the Chandigarh police officials waiting for hours, Devgan went to the house of a sub-divisional magistrate in the evening to pay the fine of Rs 200.

Besides, both the stars were also slapped with two fines each at Kurali in Mohali, around 35 km from here, for allegedly smoking at a railway station there.

"Both the actors have violated the provisions of Section 4 of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act 2003. We have also written to the Indian railways to cancel the permission to shoot on the railway premises as the crew members have violated the section 167 of the Railways Act 1989," said Hemant Goswami, chairperson, Burning Brain Society.

Salman and Devgan came to Chandigarh Monday for the shooting of a Bollywood film.

Chandigarh became the first smoke-free city of India July 15, 2007 while a ban on smoking in public places was imposed all across the country on October 2, 2008.

The first Indian to win the prestigious Golden Globe Award

A R RAHMAN , the music maestro, created history on Sunday night as he became The first Indian to win the prestigious Golden Globe Award for Best Original Music Score for Danny Boyle’s Slumdog Millionaire. Rahman’s song ‘Jai Ho,’ penned by lyricist Gulzar, was nominated for Best Original Music Score. India-based story of an underdog, the Danny Boyle-directed Slumdog Millionaire has begun its winning spree, first bagging the award for the Best Screenplay category (Simon Beaufoy) and then for the Best Original Score (A R Rahman).

The Indian connection does not end here. Bollywood’s King Khan, Shah Rukh Khan will present an award at the ceremony. The film is based on a novel by Indian diplomat Vikash Swarup and stars Bollywood actors Anil Kapoor & Irrfan Khan in lead among others.

While shooting a critical sequence in Santa Fe, Babara Mori made her shy co-star Hrithik Roshan discard his desi inhibitions to express love in one of its natural manifestations. The kiss.

After Dhoom 2 and the absolutely aesthetic kiss with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Hrithik will be seen doing a number of lip-locks with Barbara Mori in his next release, the much-anticipated Kites.

When asked about it Hrithik is amused. "Why are we even talking about kissing ? Is that such a big deal ? Hasn’t our cinema grown up?

Yes, there’re kissing scenes in the film. But nothing to make me squirm. In fact I’d be more than happy and completely comfortable watching those kissing scenes with my wife, son and parents when the film is released."

Rationalizing the need to look at lip-locking in Bollywood rationally Hrithik argues, "Kites is a love story. It’s about people in love. And what do people in love do to express their mutual feelings?

In fact it was Barbara Mori who made me realize how silly we look on screen while shying away from expressing love naturally."

This happened while Hrithik and Barbara were shooting a tough and dangerous action sequence in Santa Fe.

"We were both supposed to jump off from a rooftop at an impossible height. Before we did so our director Anurag Basu suggested I kiss Barbara since we were doing something dead-defying and dangerous and potentially lethal.

I reached out and kissed her on the cheeks. Barbara turned around to ask why I had kissed her on the cheek. ’Given the same situation with your real-life wife Sussanne would you kiss her on the cheeek?’ I was floored by her logic."

The take was repeated. "And this time I kissed her the way real-life couples would in the situation. On the lips," says Hrithik with matter-of-fact directness.

Deepika she has always been very fond of Farhan

The first thing that strikes our mind when we see Deepika Padukone and Farhan Akstar together is their noticeable difference in their heights. Deepika is known for her towering height. Even on his chat show, ‘Oye! Its Friday’, Farhan jokingly measured his height by bringing a measuring tape on the show, making her stand upright and hold the tape from the top as he places the other end on her feet.

It seems that the film’s story had Farhan so excited that he decided to push his plans of directing aside for a while and decided that he wanted to produced and act in the movie. Farhan feels the title itself will generate curiosity and is excited to essay the title role. As for Deepika she has always been very fond of Farhan especially after ‘Rock On ’ and desired to work with him. So, when this offer came along, it was a dream come true.

However, co-producer Ritesh Sidhwani maintains, “We are in talks with Deepika but nothing has been finalised.”

SRK lends his star power to Nokia, Hyundai, Pepsi, Emami, Linc, Compaq, Tag Heuer, Airtel, Sunfeast, and Belmont Suiting. He charges anywhere from Rs. 5 to 7 crores per endorsement and Rs. 6 to 8 crores per film. Unlike KBC, Paanchvi Paas didn’t do well. Karan Johar’s My Name is Khan starring SRK and Kajol is his big release this year. Khan’s character Rizwan suffers from Asperger’s Syndrome in the film. Thank God, his name is not Rahul or Raj. He also has a special appearance in Billu Barber which is his home production and the item songs with Kareena, Priyanka and Deepika are setting screens ablaze.

The Loser: Salman Khan

We are sorry to say but Salman was the biggest loser of 2008. He doesn’t have the star power that Aamir and SRK do. People go and watch an Aamir or SRK film because it is an Aamir or SRK film. They don’t need any other reason. As far as Salman is concerned, a lot of factors contribute to the film’s success which is not fuelled by Salman’s mere presence. Yuvvraaj was made on a budget of Rs. 50 crore but flopped as it made only Rs. 15 crores in two weeks. God Tussi Great Ho was a dabbe ka picture which flopped. Hello tried to cash in on Salman’s ’star power’ by giving him a chance to remove his shirt in a song. But that doesn’t sell anymore as everyone’s going topless in songs. Multistarrer Heroes in which Salman acted for a change failed to recover its modest budget of Rs. 20 crore. Red Tape and a vest brand is what Sallu endorses and for reasons unknown to us, he has an asking price of Rs. 50 crore per film which actually comes down to 15 crores. Salman will b seen in Vipul Shah’s musical London Dreams with Asin and Ajay, brother Sohail Khan’s Main aur Mrs Khanna and in period film Veer, whose script he has written.

Shrelyn Chopra recently met with a grave accident while shooting

The hot-n-sizzling babe of B-town Shrelyn Chopra recently met with a grave accident while shooting for the Yashraj film in Chandigarh. The actress cum singer banged her head against the sharp edge of a wall. It caused a huge red bump to appear on her forehead. It also caused her immense pain.

A unit member revealed, "Sherlyn is very vivacious and bubbly by nature. She does not like to sit at one place and ends up playing games after pack-up. Sherlyn is an expert at badminton and swimming. At times to unwind she also likes to indulge in games like hide and seek that are usually played by children. Shrelyn was playing with her staff in the hotel lobby and that’s when the accident happened. She was too shocked to react initially. Sherlyn was also very concious of the bump that had occurred on her forehead."

Sherlyn requested the director Anurag Singh to give her three days off and not shoot with her till the bump settled down. But when Anurag briefed her on the modern technology of make-up that could conceal bumps to a great extent Sherlyn agreed to shoot."But from that day Shrelyn has vowed that she will never play outdoor games and will indulge in only indoor games to entertain herself."

Deepika Padukone ’s character Meow Meow in her recent film with Akshay Kumar is inspired Hollywood actress Lucy Liu’s character in Charlies Angels. So when the director of the English film McG got to know about it, he was quite amused and was keen on watching Akshay’s film. He attended the premier in LA and told director Nikhil Advani that he was quite impressed by Deepika’s look.

Aamir Khan has stopped the intense workouts in GYM

Dropping weight rapidly for his new role in 3 Idiots, the star has stopped hitting the gym. Aamir Khan has stopped the intense workouts that brought him Ghajini’s 8-pack abs - and he says that he misses the intensity of gymming. The actor, currently working for his new film 3 Idiots is rapidly losing weight - and muscle in the process - as he tries to fit into the role of a man in his early 20s.

"For three months now he has not been working out, or working out as heavily because he has to look thinner," said the man who built Aamir’s body for him, Satyajit Chourasia. Aamir aims to have a weight of 68 kilos for the new look. For this the star has dropped the weight training but is keeping on the regime that Satyajit gave him to keep himself lean. "He is just doing normal cadio exercises which are essential to remain fit," Satyajit said.

Cardio exercise refers to any motion that raises the heart rate of the body and makes it consume more oxygen. This in turn makes the body break down its fat. Running, cycling and kipping are the three most common cardio exercises.

"Aamir is also following the same diet plan I had given him," Satyajit said. The star acknowledged the role of a good diet in building his body, saying that he attributed 50 per cent of his new body to what he ate.

At the Ghajini success party last week, Aamir told Satyajit that he had been missing the intensity of the workouts they had shared together. "He also discussed his diet plan," Satyajit said, "he is not consuming alcohol or cigarettes because they’re not in the diet."Praising his student, Satyajit added: "After having done the diet for a year, he has become a perfectionist."

The star is playing the role of Ryan, an IIT student in the movie directed by Raju Hirani. Based on the novel 5 Point Someone, it is due for release in May this year.
